Static Balance setup

Before you begin

  • Decide the stance, foot position, footwear, visual condition, duration, and permitted support before starting.
  • Provide a clear visual target for an eyes-open condition.
  • Position a spotter so support can be given without touching a force plate.
  • Confirm the plates are stable, unloaded, and matched to the selected configuration.
  • Select the correct project, Subject, configuration, and Static Balance examination.
  • Cue the person: “Stand as still as you comfortably can in the agreed position. Keep your head level and follow the eyes-open or eyes-closed instruction until I tell you the trial is finished.”

Steps

  1. Record the full condition in the examination notes before measurement.
  2. Select the Static Balance tile to open Measure.
  3. Keep every plate completely unloaded during tare.
  4. When prompted, help the person place each foot in the agreed position without disturbing the plates.
  5. Allow the person to settle and confirm the stance is correct.
  6. Start the documented visual condition and avoid extra coaching during recording.
  7. Observe the person continuously and end the condition safely when prompted.
  8. Wait until the wizard permits movement, then assist the person off if needed.
  9. In View, confirm the recorded interval matches the stable part of the documented condition.
  10. Record stance, footwear, visual condition, duration, support, interruption, and any reason for repetition.

You should now see

One saved balance trial with the exact condition documented and no unplanned change in stance, vision, or support.

Stop or repeat when

  • The person feels unsafe, steps, changes stance, talks, or cannot maintain the condition.
  • Eyes open during an eyes-closed condition or unexpected support is used.
  • The trial is interrupted or the recorded interval does not match the observed condition.

If it does not work

End the condition immediately and stabilise the person. Do not prioritise completing the recording over safety. Repeat only after the practitioner confirms a safe, clearly defined condition.
